india is on an ambitious trajectory to develop its space station, aiming for completion by the year 2035, as announced by the Union Minister during a recent event hosted by a prominent media group. This announcement is part of a broader initiative to elevate India's space sector to meet global standards and status.
Minister highlighted that India has started to explore its vast space, marine, and Himalayan resources, which have historically been underutilized. He emphasized that these resources could play a crucial role in driving the country's economic growth in the years to come. "To achieve the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, we must embrace and implement global strategies and standards," the Minister remarked. In addition to discussing the future space station, the Minister noted that the Indian government has actively involved private players in the space sector, recognizing the substantial opportunities this presents for innovation and growth. He remarked on the significant progress India has made since 2014 when the economic landscape of the space sector began to change dramatically. Currently, India contributes approximately 8-9 per cent to the global space economy, a figure that the minister believes could triple over the next decade as the country continues to expand its capabilities and reach.
Furthermore, the Minister pointed out that while the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was established after NASA, it has significantly closed the gap in terms of technological advancements and achievements in space exploration. “The capabilities of ISRO are growing exponentially,” he stated, adding that India has successfully launched over 432 satellites to date. This performance underscores India's growing prominence in the global arena of space exploration and technology.
